He doesn't want to embarrass her anymore than she already is, so he decides to break the engagement privately and not expose her. At that point, God steps in and explains the whole situation to Joseph and gives him some very important instructions.

I changed the voice to this lady with a fabulous English accent, entered our home address and destination, and we hit the road knowing we could never get lost.
