Adventists in America: The Real Divide - The Real Solution

An epiphany of sorts has descended on me in reading (and perhaps in writing) some of the more recent (and perhaps provocative) Adventist Today blogs, and their subsequent commentary.

Smashing Boxes: Young Adult Ministry without Preconceptions

Malvina Reynolds's song, "Little Boxes," satirized the boxy
houses that dominated suburban landscapes in the mid-20th century,
and the conformist spirit they symbolized: they were "all made out of
ticky-tacky and they all looked just the same." Today, we'd see them as
symptomatic of an even larger reality.

When a Movement Loses Its Voice

A while back I had the privilege of watching my favorite Los Angeles basketball team play a game during the most critical part of the season. It was an amazing experience to see a playoff game up close and join my voice with 19,000 other fans seeking to contribute meaningfully to a victory for our team. Sadly, my vocal efforts that day were all in vain due to an overtime defeat.

How Jesus Rolls…

You may have heard someone say, after describing the way that they do things, "That's just how I roll." All of Scripture depicts how Jesus rolls. In our human nature we frequently desire to control things and spirituality is no exception. At the root of sin is self-dependence and so we frequently turn to ourselves to "find God" or attempt to appease God by proving to
read more

The Allemani and the Heruli?

Mention the Minneapolis General Conference of 1888, and most
Adventists immediately think of righteousness by faith. We tend to forget that
another issue occupied a great deal of the time and attention of that
gathering.
